PLOT SUMMARY: A brilliant debut mystery in a classic vein: Detective Cormoran Strike investigates a supermodel's suicide. After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, and creditors are calling. He has also just broken up with his longtime girlfriend and is living in his office.
Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: His sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, known to her friends as the Cuckoo, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.
You may think you know detectives, but you've never met one quite like Strike. You may think you know about the wealthy and famous, but you've never seen them under an investigation like this.

I am definitely a girl for the covers! I saw this book first when my boyfriend's mother was reading it and instantly felt in love with the cover. At that point I did not know it was written by J.K.Rowling, I was actually rather frustrated that I never heard of Robert Galbraith so went straight to Goodreads to find who he is. And surprise surprise it was a pseudonym for J.K.Rowling! And boy oh boy I love J.K.Rowling! After her last book The Casual Vacancy I wanted more of her work just so so badly! So it took me about a month to hunt the book down in local library and the moment it became available I went straight there and grabbed it before anybody else could take away my long waited pleasure!

OVERALL: Usually when you start the new book of the new series it is a little bit dragging till you get to know the characters and their world. I must say, it was not the case in The Cuckoo's Calling. Somehow from page one it was just mesmerizing! The writing style was so different from the one in The Casual Vacancy, especially the use of language! I cannot believe how brilliant J.K.Rowling is!
And most importantly, this book just like all crime books has that moment when all secrets unravel but opposite to the usual case of actually seeing the big bang coming in The Cuckoo's Calling you just have no real idea who to blame and even if there really is anybody to blame! The little details, little trips Cormoran and Robin make...they are so interesting you do not notice they are actually a little out of connection something, everything just seems to make perfect sense. And then suddenly that moment comes of the big BANG! And you just "wait whaaaaaat?". Ah, I cannot put in word, I really cannot!

CHARACTERS: were as well great. I loved how everybody had their own little secrets, how the author draw the picture of real life of rich and the behind the scene so called famous life. It felt while reading the book that every character was just in the right place at the right time, never it felt too much or too little. And the main character Strike...such a human!
I have to admit I am on the thing when it comes to books lately. It has been the third book in a row that I absolutely loved. I have been proven by the Casual Vacancy that J.K. Rowling is INCREDIBLE author outside Harry Potter and once again I am absolutely happy to have read her amazing work. I surely cannot wait for more!
