SYNOPSIS: It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.

Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.

Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.

Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.

I honestly didn't know about this book until very recently when I started blogging and I started to read reviews about the trilogy. People were very pleased with all the books so I decided to read it and judge it myself!

THE WORLD: We are in a post-apocalyptic world where angels have invaded Earth. Humans killed their Messenger (the leader), archangel Gabriel, so angels took revenge and also stayed in Earth because now they have to deal with appointing a new Messenger. They are stuck in angel politics... which are brutal by the way. Being the Messenger is a big deal and angels will do anything to get ahead of their competition.

CHARACTERS: The main character is Penryn Young, a 17 year old girl whose main concern is protecting her sister Paige and her mother from the street gangs and the angel attacks. She has it difficult though because Paige cannot walk (she's in a wheelchair) and her mom is kind of crazy... like she's one of those people who doesn't really distinguish reality from fiction and the typical who does something bad and says "the devil made me do it" you fell me? She's super religious as well and gets on my nerves. Anyway, Penryn designs a plan to get her family to a relatively safe place but it fails when she gets involved in an angel battle and her sister is kidnapped as a consequence. On the other hand, she safes an angel from the battle, Raffe. He is so perfect. Well, duh, he's an angel but still he's not what humans thought angels were.
Penryn and Raffe then make a deal: in exchange for saving him, Raffe has to help Penryn rescue her sister from the kidnapper angel. That's what the book is mainly about, them trying to locate and rescue Paige, and along the way we meet the Resistance members, lead by Obadiah West, and a few angels like Beliel and Uriel.

LOVE: There is no romance. Just fraternal love. Although my ship has chemistry oh yeah.

PLUS: This book is so entertaining! I am officially studying for exams but at night I just couldn't put it down! I liked the chemistry between the characters, I liked the plot and the small revelation I somehow didn't see coming...

I must say as well that although Penryn's mom is crazy she has excellent survival skills. Darn, she's badass.

MINUS: I don't have any minuses.

OVERALL: 4.5 stars. The only reason why it has 4.5 stars is because I want to wait and see how it the trilogy ends. If the end is not good it ruins the whole series so I hope it's epic.
