SYNOPSIS: In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world.

When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken.

Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go.

Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

After loving Angelfall I could only move asap to the next one! I had high expectations but this was also the second book of a trilogy... and we all know about "second book syndrome" so I promised myself not to be too disappointed if it didn't meet my expectations. It wasn't too bad actually :)

THE WORLD: We are still in the same post-apocalyptic world. The book starts right were the first book ended.

CHARACTERS: We have the same characters as well: Penryn, Paige, their mom, Raffe, Obadiah, Beliel, and Uriel. However, their character dynamics are changed since in this book we get to see a lot of interaction between Penryn and Paige and their mom, as well as a lot of scenes among the Resistance members. I didn't mention it in the previous review but in the Resistance there are two twins who act as spies and they're quite talented as well as hilarious. It was nice to read their deals with Penryn.
In terms of development I really liked reading about Penryn and Paige because now that Paige is not... hmm... well let's say that she was changed a bit, Penryn has to face the reality while still accepting her love for Paige. And it was curious that the mom saw Paige as more human than Penryn... just because she thinks that Penryn made a deal with a demon. That part was like "what the...?"
Anyway, now that Penryn and Paige are reunited the book focuses on war more and on how they're going to fight the angel invasion.

LOVE: Although one half of the ship is not present until the end of the book I can say that their relationship has shifted. Romance is blossoming. I sense it.

PLUS: So the book was really quick and action-packed. I got bored of reading all about war, Penryn moving from one place to another, etc but the moment she and Paige found Raffe... well, that started to be interesting!

MINUS: I missed Raffe so much in this book! He's barely present... I mean the story is more concentrated on Penryn and Paige which was cute but at the same time I missed Raffe.

OVERALL: 4 stars. Not as good as the first book but actually being a second book, it was pretty nice! I wouldn't categorize it under "second book syndrome" ;)
