Today we are reading

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN by ROBERT FROST

Let's get to know Robert Frost:
Robert Lee Frost (March 26, 1874 – January 29, 1963) - was an American poet. He is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech. He is one of the most honored and critically acclaimed poets and even won a Pulitzer Prize for poetry. In his poems Frost explores the themes of existence and general emotions of human beings such as: love or loneliness. The surroundings of his poems is usually the rural life of New England. The Road Not Taken is a narrative poem consisting of four stanzas of 5 lines each in iambic tetrameter and is one of Frost's most popular works. Besides being among the best known poems, some claim that it is one of the most misunderstood.

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I truly do love this poem, because to my minds it talks about sometimes having second thoughts or doubts in the path you chose for your life. Because we always see these encouragement memes about following your dreams, taking chances and yet sometimes those chances turn out to be not exactly what we wanted. In this poem we hear the narrator talk about how he had two roads in life, the more easier and pretty one, meaning the comfort, the safety and another one the less traveled by that not every one to take, that is unknown, scary, and that the path he chose made all the difference.

I, myself am the kind of person to chose the easier, safe path, to not worry, to be at ease, but maybe the less traveled roads are the ones people should take more often to realize how lucky they are and to experience the beauty and changes. To, I promise to myself, that this new year I will the less traveled by roads just like Robert Frost :)  And what about you?
