BLURB:
“He wouldn’t understand. He didn’t live in a pretend world. In truth, he did. Most beings, pure humans, walked around thinking they were the only type of people that existed.” –Alena

As a creature forbidden by both vampire and witch cultures, Alena traverses the country with her mother in search of an unknown entity. When Alena finds Hunter everything changes. Their bond may be the key to answers Alena seeks. As she investigates the connection, an equally handsome, but mysterious suitor appears. Will the truth be uncovered before it is too late? Or will her Mother’s kingdom be reduced to embers?

I received this book for an honest review

EXPECTATIONS: Going into this book, the only thing I knew about it was that it had vampires and witches in it!  Sold! So I kind of had the expectation for the book being very good and maybe becoming this new world!

THE WORLD: It's pretty much our world. People have jobs, kids go to school, bullying happens, love happens. Nothing pretty different except that this world also has vampire and witches and other supernatural covens in it.

CHARACTERS: Our main character and the protagonist of the book is names Alena. She is a vampire-witch hybrid and she lives a pretty cushy life. I, unfortunately did not relate to Alena or even liked her to be honest. To me she did not possess any admirable features. She was annoying, petty and was the 'girl next door' with her biting her lip or tucking her hair under her ear. All I saw was Bella Swan (yes I love Twilight, but we already have Twilight, I don't need another book). To me she had this dual personality: at home she was this sassy girl, who had come backs to her servants and mother, and at school she was this silent shy girl, who reacted badly to people calling her names an who attracted the most handsome jock/nerd guy. I don't know she didn't possess any traits that would have made me love her!

And we had multiple characters like this: the two guys she loves/likes, her friends and so on.

The only characters I liked where the servants Elizabeth, Omr (sorry, I can't recall the correct spelling of the name) and her mother Anna. They were developed, grounded and serious!

ROMANCE: Love triangle that is kind of not, because we don't get to see any love or romantic feeling development.

GOOD: The only thing that I really really liked was the pre-history about Alena's parents. Her mother is a vampire, her father is a witch and I would have loved to read more about their relationship, and how their world is, and why it is how it is! To be that just was much much more appealing.

BAD: The development of the love. I mean one minute Alena has no one to talk to, the next a hot guy sits next to her and seconds later they study together and he invited her to this secret jock hanging out place. The boy Nick, he was alright but I mean how fast is this? Or Hunter the other guy she loves/likes, it's like - I will help you! Yes I love you, we don't get to see any romantic emotion developing or anything. I mean you can have a crush on more than one person, but this should be described in a relatable manner in a book.

Also, the whole story of how vampire and witches were born.....a huge NO from me!

OVERALL: Overall, I would say this book is probably suitable for a younger audience. If I was much younger I probably would have liked this book better, cause the writing style was nice and it was easy to read it. So if you are interested go and check Kingdom of Embers yourself!
